Educators, including speech-language specialists should collaborate to assist non-verbal learners in being able to access their basic communication rights including: The right to express personal preferences and feelings; the right to make choices from meaningful alternatives; the right to make comments and share opinions; and the right to ask for and give information, including information about changes in routine and environment. This workshop will discuss practical, evidence-based methods for assessing the strengths and weaknesses of non-verbal communicators. Low, medium, and high-tech communication tools will be reviewed. Strategies for successful implementation of communication systems will be presented. As an interprofessional approach is in the students' best interests, special educators as well as speech-language specialists are encouraged to attend this workshop.

The workshop will be presented by Dr. Amy Hadley.
