Event Location: SRI & ETTC - Computer Lab #127
Street Address: 10 West Jimmie Leeds Road
City: Galloway
State/Country: New Jersey
Proposal Deadline:
Event Details: In this workshop participants will create inquiry based lessons which enable students to learn through exploration. A HyperDoc is a term used to describe a G Suite document that contains a lesson for students. It can have instructions, images, and hyperlinks, but it is much more than some links in a document. HyperDocs do more than just repackage lessons, they can inspire curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving. The inclusion of add-ons and web tools give students a voice and a chance to join forces with classmates. HyperDocs encourage students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills through linked tasks that ask for authentic products to be created and shared digitally. Let us ease you into the HyperDoc creation process by bringing your lesson plans with you, and you will leave with a HyperDoc lesson that promotes deeper engagement.
Please create a G Suite account before attending this session.
The workshop will be presented by Michelle Wendt, Instructional Technologist at the SRI&ETTC.
Audience: Educators Grades 4-12
Workshop Code: W18011
Dates: Tuesday, December 5, 2017
From: 9:00 to: 3:00

Event Details: Discover new ways to bring narrative writing instruction in the upper elementary grades into the digital age by using computer programming elements. Students become motivated to produce outstanding narratives through the use of computer programming. In this workshop participants will review the main story structure and elements in teaching writing.
Reach students through their way of encountering the world, in a multimedia format, with digital age learning in the forefront. Using computational thinking skills, students can enhance their knowledge of computer science concepts to increase motivation and the desire to develop well-written narratives. Additionally, student writing will become more structured, more detailed, better developed, and thoughtful. While using logic, analytic thinking, and sequencing, students will problem solve to increase creativity by taking complex writing structures and breaking them into simpler parts using Scratch or Scratch Jr. Combining both fields, writing and computer programming, students will be inspired to go beyond the original assignment, and create written masterpieces that embody storytelling fundamentals in a digital age learning style.

Event Details: A suicide death is devastating to survivors. There always remains the question "Why?", and frequently those left behind are slow to recover, their lives changed forever. Suicide, a public health issue, is generally preventable. Research has given us great understanding about risk and protective factors, as well as warning signs and what to do when we are concerned about someone's safety.
This workshop will focus on youth suicide in children and young adults between the ages of 10 and 24. The greater our understanding, the more effective we become in prevention. And if a suicide does occur, responding in a proper way will minimize the possibility of another death or deaths. The session is designed to enhance awareness among educators and others who have a presence in the lives of these children and young adults.
Presented by George Scott, EdS, LMFT: George Scott is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at the Center for Counseling in Mercer County, and an adjunct faculty member at The College of New Jersey.
Mr. Scott served as the Coordinator of the Middlesex and Monmouth Counties' Traumatic Loss Coalition for many years, and was a Training and Consultation Specialist for the New Jersey Youth Suicide Prevention Project which was managed by Rutgers University Behavior Health Care (UBHC).
Mr. Scott has been certified in Post-Traumatic Stress Management (PTSM) with Robert D. Macy, PhD, and in the CASE (Chronological Assessment of Suicidal Ideation) Approach with Shawn C. Shea, MD. George is known throughout New Jersey as an engaging speaker, bringing professional staff and parents to a greater understanding of their roles in raising healthy children.

Event Details: Unfortunately, not all classrooms are created equally and today's classrooms continue to look exactly like they did decades ago. Although some schools have implemented BYOD programs where students have access to netbooks or tablets, the students in those classrooms are using the tablets to complete worksheets, and they are not necessarily having conversations around learning.
Today's classrooms should look and feel different. They should have more flexible spaces where students can engage in collaboration with peers, and they should be curating content more than they are consuming it.
Besides classrooms and learning, tomorrow's classrooms today is about a mindset and framework of understanding, and we need to make sure that we are not just talking about it on Twitter or Facebook, but we actually need to be doing something about it.
So more than anything right now, Tomorrow's classrooms today is a call to action for stakeholders to stay current with school happenings through social media and on their mobile devices. It's a message to disconnected educators to take advantage of all the ideas and resources that connected educators are able to utilize on a daily basis. Tomorrow's classrooms today is a mindset that focuses on best practice teaching techniques that are enhanced by the integration of devices, web applications, and risk-taking.
Where Can Educators Learn About Tomorrow's Classrooms Today?
Tomorrow's Classrooms Today is a conference taking place at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ on Friday May 18 and Saturday, May 19. This two day educational event will feature over forty innovative presenters from all over the country, a keynote address by world renowned educators Salome Thomas-EL and Eric Sheninger, a live-feed room, and five minute ignite sessions.
There is nothing better than being in the same space with like-minded educators who can help stretch our own thinking. Educators who are currently using these innovative practices in their classrooms...and here's the thing....they don't even think they're innovative. It's who they are and how they think.
Tomorrow's classrooms today is all about educators committing to changing learning environments that meet students where they are and arming them with an arsenal of skills that will give them a fighting chance to be successful well into the future.
There are several key characteristics that make up tomorrow's classrooms today...
