Event Details: This workshop highlights the critical importance of pro-active efforts to address various forms of bias as part of comprehensive anti-bullying programming and legal compliance. General efforts to promote a positive school climate might fail to effectively address specific biases in the school environment. Each form of bias and diversity poses unique challenges in the school environment. The emphasis is on understanding each type of diversity in its own right and enhancing knowledge, skills, and strategies for educating students and creating an equitable and welcoming school climate for all students.

The workshop will be presented by Dr. Paula Rodriguez Rust.
Dr. Paula Rodriguez Rust of Spectrum Diversity is a sociologist specializing in bullying and cultural competence. She is known internationally for her original research on gender and sexual orientation diversity. Dr. Rodriguez Rust is a member of the Advisory Group of the NJ Coalition for Bullying Prevention and Awareness and is co-chair of the Board of the Central New Jersey Gay, Lesbian, Straight and Education Network (GLSEN).
