Event Details: A suicide death is devastating to survivors. There always remains the question "Why?", and frequently those left behind are slow to recover, their lives changed forever. Suicide, a public health issue, is generally preventable. Research has given us great understanding about risk and protective factors, as well as warning signs and what to do when we are concerned about someone's safety.

This workshop will focus on youth suicide in children and young adults between the ages of 10 and 24. The greater our understanding, the more effective we become in prevention. And if a suicide does occur, responding in a proper way will minimize the possibility of another death or deaths. The session is designed to enhance awareness among educators and others who have a presence in the lives of these children and young adults.
Presented by George Scott, EdS, LMFT: George Scott is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at the Center for Counseling in Mercer County, and an adjunct faculty member at The College of New Jersey.

Mr. Scott served as the Coordinator of the Middlesex and Monmouth Counties' Traumatic Loss Coalition for many years, and was a Training and Consultation Specialist for the New Jersey Youth Suicide Prevention Project which was managed by Rutgers University Behavior Health Care (UBHC).
Mr. Scott has been certified in Post-Traumatic Stress Management (PTSM) with Robert D. Macy, PhD, and in the CASE (Chronological Assessment of Suicidal Ideation) Approach with Shawn C. Shea, MD. George is known throughout New Jersey as an engaging speaker, bringing professional staff and parents to a greater understanding of their roles in raising healthy children.
Mr. Scott believes, "All adults have the power within them to improve the lives of children."
